Weekend Gifts

The first day of the week was great.  We started out with church, then lunch with friends and then a nap.  I got a bit of a head start on the week while Cameron and the girls went to evening church.  I know, shame, shame. :)  It makes such a difference though if I can get things planned out and have a chance to catch my breath from an extra busy weekend before we get started with a new week.

So, I am thankful for.....

119.  An understanding and generous husband.

120.  A husband who starts the car in 7 degree weather.

121.  Small dogs that are not yappy!

122.  Five year olds who think the dentist is fun.

123.  Five year old hair do's.  On herself and mommy.  Priceless.  NO Pictures!

124.  A husband who is happy with a small dog even though he really would love a Great Dane.

125.  Singing "Great is Thy Faithfulness".

126.  An 11 year old who loves the five year old.  Most of the time.

127.  Good health so far this winter.

128.  Obedience.  Theirs and mine.

129.  Watching the girls play dress up/fashion show.  Kate can really swing those hips!

What a Week!

Although this week wasn't horrible, I am glad for it to be over.  I don't like roller coasters, at all, and that would be a good way to describe this week.

On Monday, the girls and I had appointments to get our teeth cleaned.  Yee ha.  I do not like going to the dentist at all, but everything went well.  I'm always amazed that Kate thinks it fun.  The worst part is driving there and back we have to pass a Dairy Queen!  There isn't even an alternate route. LOL

Monday night, Lilly was making lots of noise and kept waking me up.  I kept snapping my fingers at her and telling her to HUSH!!  She would for a while, but then she'd start whining again.  I might have even used the words "shut up."  Then sometime in the night I heard this different kind of whining.  I still thought it was Lilly although at one point I thought it could have been a mouse.  I was half asleep!

In the morning, imagine my shock when there was this little white thing in Lilly's bed!  At first I thought of that squeaky mouse and then I realized that it wasn't a mouse, it was a puppy!!  Our dog had been pregnant and no one knew!

Lilly was acting funny through out the morning and I couldn't tell if this tiny puppy was nursing or not, so we took them to the vet.  He told us that the puppy was too small and she may not make it, but Lilly was fine.  He was right.  The puppy died during the night.

The girls handled it very well.  There were no tears.  It's not like they had time to get attached and they knew what the vet had said.  Now I'm not a big animal lover, I'm not an animal hater either, but I'd never be one to call one of my pets "baby" or those types of things.  But I was.....in a funk, as Cameron would say.  It took me most of the day to stop seeing that puppy in my head.

Thursday we had a field trip at our local county courthouse.  Meeting and listening to one of the judges was pretty interesting, but the rest of the tour, quite honestly, was boring.  I think it's the first field trip we have ever been on that I just wished we would have stayed home.  The time was redeemed with a little lunch at a new cafe across the street. :)  Food always helps.  Especially red velvet cake truffles!

Today Callie had her first official eye exam.  Her appointment was at 2:30 PM and we left there around 4:40 PM.  The place was packed!  I guess a couple of assistants didn't come that day and so they were short handed.   Since I've never had an eye exam at an optometrist's, I really wasn't sure what to expect and didn't really prepare Callie.  So when she was told to "read the smallest letters you can see" she didn't realize that  she should just start at the beginning of the row and read.  She was searching the poster for the smallest letter, and the assistant I and thought she was blind for a minute.  I realized that she didn't understand and explained to just read the letters like she normally would, from left to right.  That was a little better, but she is still getting glasses.  She's got her Daddy's eyes.  Too bad she didn't get his patience and mostly tamed tongue. :)  She had to go and get those things, I mean the lack of, from me.  Kate was amazingly patient during that 2 hour wait and we finally got to go home.   Then we went out to get some supper and return some library books.  After we had been gone about 20 minutes, Kate realized she didn't have her blanket nor a stuffed animal.  She cried and whined for 15 minutes.  Very loudly.  No amount of sympathy, petting, firm talking or finally, threatening, helped.  There were some other ideas in my head too, but we were not at home and I imagine that wouldn't have helped either. :)  Chic-fil-A to the rescue.  Thank God!

So not a horrible week.  We are quite blessed and have a lot to be thankful for.  I am, however, ready for a new one.

Thank you Granny & Poppy!!  We love you!!

One Thousand Gifts -- Home Makover Edition

While the girls and I were gone to my parents, helping out and picking up a dog, there were little fairies at my house working hard.  I was supposed to have no idea at all, but Cameron couldn't keep a surprise if his life depended on it.  I didn't know what exactly was happening or to what extent, but I knew something was up.

Now to those of you who have never been here, you could look at these pictures and think, "big deal".  So let me give you a little background.  I am not particularly fond of "earth tones" in decorating.  I think it's pretty in other people's homes, but it's not what I love and want to be surrounded by.  Somehow, I ended up surrounded by more brown than I could stand.  Mostly due to beautiful, original woodwork, hardwood floors, and a rash decision concerning paint colors.  We also have in this house almost no storage.  "There's a place for everything and everything in it's place" is a wonderful little song and theory.  In this house it is a dream.  So I've been painting and building on rooms in my dreams for some time now.

I have a dear friend who also has a friend who loves this type of challenge.  My sweet friend wanted to surprise me and paint our dining table and chairs while the girls and I were gone.  Well one thing led to another and these ladies painted a couple of more things, table legs were built by a very talented man, and things were rearranged to make a SCHOOL ROOM and some STORAGE!!  Yes, I know all caps means one is yelling!  I am yelling.  In a good way!

There were a few new things brought in, but most things we already had, they were just rearranged in a much better way.

Here is a tour.

So here is my list.....

109.  Friends who care.

110.  A husband who just gets so excited he can't stand it.

110.  God's wonderful rainbow--especially red!

111.  God's healing for Friend's little girl.  Even that same week that she was spending so much time at my house.

112.  "Junk" in the barn and a can of white paint.

113.  Hidden and pretty storage.

114.  A loving heavenly father who know just what this woman needs in the middle of winter.  COLOR!

115.  Little girls who squeal with delight and say that our house looks like "a magazine house."

116.  Creative women with good taste.

117.  My friend's helper.  She doesn't even know me!

118.  My friend's husband who didn't mind her being gone, fixed our computer and took a giant piece of old wood and turned it into a school room table/desk.

Thank you Lord and thank you Glen, Kelly and Rebecca!!  And Cameron!

Along Came Lilly

For as long as I (Cameron) can remember, I have been a "dog person".  Sharron?  Not so much.  If I could I would probably have a dozen various breeds, in all sizes, except a Chihuahua or any hairless variety.  Those, IMHO, are the most unattractive dogs I have ever seen.  After years of being dogless Sharron and I acquired a sweet Llasa Apso from the Humane Society.  She was one of the best dogs I have ever had.  Her time with us was short lived.  My gracious wife, knowing my love for dogs, later acquired a feisty little puppy named Daisy.  She was not one of the best dogs I have ever had, due in large part to her opposite temperament from Star.  Let's just say that Daisy's time with our family was brief.  She is in a new home now.  After many months of no dogs, my lovely bride has once again put her husband's and children's desires above her own, and I am pleased to announce the arrival of "Lily the Wonder Dog".

Her temperament is much like Star's and we are looking forward to many happy days.

Christmas in Mississippi

More retro blogging.....Our Christmas in Mississippi was wonderful too.  We were able to stay longer and were very spoiled.  It was like staying at a bed and breakfast!  And it SNOWED!  I know this is old news now, but come on, this was big news.  It was so beautiful as snow always is, but the element of surprise added to the excitement.

The first few days the weather was very mild and sunny.  I was actually wishing I had packed a little differently.

The girls and I made Pretzel Dots.  I had never been that inspired to make these, I'm more of a brownie girl, until I realized that we could make them with Kate's gluten free pretzels and she would be able to have some fun treats too.  They were yummy!!  Next time I will not be making these with dark chocolate Kisses.  They were way too tempting and I ate way too many.

Christmas morning we woke up to a cloudy, rainy day.  But during breakfast we looked out the window and saw some of the biggest snowflakes I have ever seen.  This picture does not show it, but they were huge.

On our way home we took the scenic route and stopped in Tupelo.  I couldn't believe how tiny the house was!

We had a great visit and our trip home went smoothly.  It snowed all through Alabama and then we stopped halfway to have a little fun in Nashville.  It was good to be home.  Even if it did mean back to reality.

Christmas in Indiana 2010

It seems a bit ridiculous to be posting these now, but I'm going to anyway. :)  We had a wonderful Christmas, actually three of them!  First we had Christmas at my parents with my sisters and their families.  Then we had our own Christmas here at home before we left for Mississippi.

Granddaddy and two of his girls

Aidan doing his impression of a dead deer!  Guess who's daddy is a hunter.

Exhausted from all the fun

The dolls got a tea set

I don't remember what she was opening or why in the world she is wearing a sleeveless dress, but she sure was happy!

We've had such a busy and full December and January that I will be doing some retro blogging for a bit.  There are too many good pictures and things to share to just jump to the present.  I'll try to hurry!

January So Far

Well I didn't intend to ignore this blog for so long, but life has been a little crazy lately.  We had a wonderful Christmas in Mississippi.  It SNOWED and was so beautiful.  I took some pictures which turned out pretty good, but I am not at home so I cannot include them here.  Which leads me to the craziness.  We spent nine days out of town for Christmas, then we were home for a week, and now the girls and I are spending the week at my sister's/parent's.  We are here helping out for a few days and I'm really glad that we have the flexibility that homeschooling gives us to be able to do this.  I will admit to a bit of freaking out in my head over what is not getting done though.  I brought Callie's school work with us thinking it would be easy to get it done, but thanks to a few inches of snow my niece and nephew's school has been cancelled.  So, it has been all day play dates Tuesday and Wednesday.

I'm trying to not think about the "double duty" that awaits us when we get home and just enjoy this beautiful scenery, sledding with my nieces and nephew and hanging out with family.  I do love this unrushed time to be together.

I hope to post pictures soon.  Even if they are Old News now. :)  Next week we should be getting back to somewhat of a normal schedule.  I'm not quite sure I remember what that's like, but I sure am anxious to be home and stay home for a while.
